Layered paintings, lived stories.
Lucie Flynn is a contemporary painter based in Surrey, working with spray paint, acrylic, drawing materials and mixed media. Her layered paintings bring together portraiture, the human form, text and abstract mark-making, drawing on lived experience, memory and the stories we carry.

THE WORK
Lucie is particularly drawn to the shared experiences of women, and to the moments of connection and recognition that can exist between us.
Her paintings develop through layers – marks are made, obscured, removed and returned to, allowing the history of the work to remain visible.
More recently, painting outdoors has introduced a quieter thread into her practice. Responding to landscape, light, colour and atmosphere, these works explore observation and presence while retaining the intuitive, layered approach that runs through her wider practice.
Lucie’s paintings are part of an ongoing conversation – inviting viewers to recognise something of their own experience within the work.
